2nd Annual Turning Pain Into Power 5K
After Jackie organized and hosted this race last year for her senior graduation project, she realized she wanted to continue for another year! This year, Jackie is organizing and hosting a 5k walk/race with some of her fellow MIP Kit recipients (and now friends)! The race will take place on June 1st, 2024 at Kerr Park in Downingtown, PA. These MIP’s are raising money and awareness for The MIP Foundation to support oncology patients like themselves! Jackie, Lily, Mary Kate, and Abigail want other patients to feel supported through The MIP Kit Program as they were!
Parking will be available via the municipal parking lots at Planet Fitness and Kerr Park.
There will be a post-race gathering this year following the race! This event will be held on the fields of Kerr Park.
The top finisher in each category will receive a gift card - Categories are 15&U, 15-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70+, and the oldest finisher will also receive a gift card!
There will be porta-potties available

Turning Pain Into Power 5K
Help Support MIP Jackie!
My name is Jackie Alfinito. I am 18 years old and currently in my senior year of high school. In August of 2021, I was diagnosed with Metastatic Papillary Thyroid Carcinoma. While this has been difficult and life-changing, there have been some bright spots. My team at Nemours Children's Hospital took great care of me physically through all of the labs, surgeries, and office visits. It was later in 2021, however, when I was connected to the MIP Foundation which provided me with amazing coping skills and tools as well as a personalized array of gifts, crafts, and activities. The MIP Foundation supported me through the toughest period and I vowed to give back to them for what they had done for me.
For my senior year graduation project, I wanted to organize a 5k on April 29th, 2023, in West Chester PA! The purpose of this project is to raise funds and awareness for The MIP Foundation in order to help other teens and families with pediatric cancer. The MIP Foundation's mission is to "foster and promote mental health support and social services for adolescent and young adult Oncology Patients while increasing awareness about the effects of Pediatric Cancer".
You can support Jackie by participating in the race/walk, volunteering for race day operations, donating toward her fundraising goal, or being a Sponsor for the race! All details can be found on the race website via button below.
