Mindfulness is often referred to as the practice of being present: living in the moment without projecting yourself constantly into the future, the past, or elsewhere. True, but not always so easy! How often do you think about BC (before cancer)? Or worry about the future AC (after cancer)??

When a person is being mindful, they are noticing and paying attention to thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is taking a moment to focus on where you are in the moment. It is a mental state that involves being fully focused on "the now" so you can acknowledge and accept your thoughts, feelings, and sensations without judgment.
Techniques can vary, but in general, mindful meditation involves deep breathing and awareness of body and mind. Practicing mindfulness meditation doesn't require props or preparation (no need for candles, essential oils, or mantras, unless you enjoy them). To get started, all you need is a comfortable place to sit, three to five minutes of free time, and a judgment-free mindset.
